Local area
Dartmoor - this is a stunningly beautiful area of moorland accented with wooded valleys and wind swept Tors (the old celtic word for "tower"). A wide-open expanse covering 369 square miles (953 sq. km.), the area features some of the wildest and bleakest country in England. This isolated landscape with weather conditions (mist, rain and snow) that can change in minutes, creates a truly natural spectacle - 'nature' at its best.
Beaches - the wonderful beaches of North Devon are within an hour’s drive of Eggesford. Saunton Sands (National trust beach where dog walking is allowed all year through), Woolacombe and Croyde offer some of the best surfing in the country.
Exeter - take in the heritage of Exeter with its wonderful cathedral, leisure activities, theatre and cinema. It’s easy to spend a day just taking in this ancient city, but if you feel like wandering out of the city the fishing towns along the estuary such Topsham are well worth a visit.
Barnstaple - don’t miss the Pannier market in Barnstaple and the special kind of welcome this historic capital of North Devon has to offer.
